Scientific discovery is the bedrock of our business. We are fortunate to have a highly qualified team of agricultural and civil-environmental engineers who are driving innovative product development and important humic research.

Edwin Liem, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Passionate about research and with an exceptional eye for detail, Dr. Edwin Liem is an integral member of the CHI team. For more than 25 years, Dr. Liem has been progressing the research agenda of his various employers and today he is making discoveries in the CHI lab in Edmonton, Alberta. After completing a BSc civil engineering in Indonesia in 1990, Dr. Liem obtained his PhD in civil-environmental engineering from the University of Alberta, where he focused on physical, chemical, and biological processes for water/waste & soil treatment. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Alberta, the International Humic Substances Society, as well as the Humic Products Trade Association. Be it in the university, government or private sector setting, Dr. Liem is having a profound impact.

Mariana Cano, M.Agr.Eng.

Mrs. Cano finished her studies in Agricultural Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile with a Minor in Crop Science in 2012. Shortly after, she joined the team at Canadian Humalite International as a quality control expert. In addition to ensuring superior laboratory standards, Mrs. Cano has been actively involved in various trials including indoor hydroponic test and outdoor field tests. Some of these findings can be found in Acres and American Journal of Experimental agriculture.

Tannis Serben, B.Sc.

As the newest member of the CHI research team, Mrs. Serben brings expertise in soil bioremediation and wildlife conservation. After obtaining a BSc in Environmental and Conservation Science from the University of Alberta in 2011, Mrs. Serben honed her laboratory skills studying the intricacies of biological systems under various conditions. Whether exploring leading-edge solutions in aquatics, effective land management or remediation, Mrs. Serben is adding value.

Paulo Verdi, M.Agr.Eng.

Mr. Verdi finished his studies in Agricultural Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile with a Minor in Business in 2012. Since then, he has been working at Canadian Humalite International as a product development specialist. His work has focused on various humics trials, as well as the creation of progressive fertilizer mixes that maximize humics potential. Mr. Verdi has a long history of collaboration with Dr. Liem and is a regular on local farms where he collects samples to further his research. His impressive work has been published in Acres and American Journal of Experimental agriculture.
